Where is kudajadri temple
The other is to stay either at the Government Guest House in Moolasthanam or the houses of the priests there and take your own time visiting each spot in Kudajadri the next day. No prizes for guessing the best option. The advantage of starting the trek early in the morning is that enchanting views of the sunrise from Kudajadri can be enjoyed. The walk to Savajna Peedom lasts one hour. The trek is a difficult effort, but it reminds people that the path to knowledge and enlightenment is not easy.
Halfway up on the right side is the Ganapathy cave. It is believed that a path exists through the cave to Chitramoola, another cave. Though the climb is hard, refreshing breeze provides energy to the travellers.
Moreover, when acute fatigue grips the travellers, they shed their ego. Finally, when they reach Sarvajna Peedom, where Shankaracharya achieved enlightenment, the travellers realize that the way to peace starts from ultimate knowledge.
The trip to Sarvajna Peedom would be completed after paying obeisance to the spot where Sanakaracharya meditated to the goddess. However, several questions crop in a traveller's mind. How did a Brahmin from Kalady in Kerala reach this desolate spot in a Karnataka forest in the ancient past when no transportation facilities such as those available now existed? How did he live here? How could he build the granite structure all alone? Maybe the saint, who memorized all four Vedas by the age of eight, wrote a commentary to the Bhagavad Gita at age 12 and authored around Sanskrit books by age 32 before leaving the world knew everything.
From Sarvajna Peedom, Kollur Temple can be seen in a valley on the west. There are three temples at Kudajadri. They are dedicated to Uma Devi, the Goddess in a peaceful form; Devi in a terrible form and Kalabhairavan. Travellers can pray at these temples before climbing the hill to Saravajna Peedom. From Kudajadri, there are two trekking paths to Sarvajna Peedom. The one on the left is relatively easier to climb. It would be a test of faith over senses. Adi Shankara agreed and started walking.
He could hear the sound of the anklets bells of Devi as she walked behind him. Adi Shankara became suspicious that Devi has stopped following Him. He turned to check out. Devi was very much behind him, but, since the vow was broken, Devi said, "I will not follow you anymore.
I will stay here at this spot". That is the spot where Kollur Mookambika temple is today. Sankara was saddened by the turn of events and begged the forgiveness of the Devi whose heart melted for her devotee and promised that she would present herself at Chottanikkara temple in the mornings and he could meet her there.
There is a Shivalingam in the cave. Ganesha Guha is near the trekking path to Sarvajna peetha. There is a Ganapati idol in this cave and a tunnel which leads to Mookambika temple at Kollur and also to Chitra moola cave. One iron pillar of about 40 feet length is planted erect in front of Moola Mookambika Temple near peak of Kodachadri and it is compared with massive similar historic iron pillars located at Dhar, Mount Abu etc.
Devotees believe that this is the trishula used by goddess Mookambika to slay a demon called Mookasura as per local tradition. It is found made of pure iron. It is also found to be less affected by corrosion, despite of humid conditions prevailing there due to heavy rains. This iron pillar is considered as testimony of ancient Indian iron craftmanship. Around 5 km from Kodachadri is Hidlumane Waterfalls and it can be reached by trekking on a bridle path. Another water falls in deep forest is Arasinagundi falls which 6 km from Kollur, at the bottom of Kodachadri near Dhalli village.
One more waterfalls called Belakallu theertha is located near Mudur, Jadkal and 15 km from Kollur and at the bottom of Kodachadri on southern side and involves easy trekking to reach. Nagara Fort is around 25 km from Kodachadri where an old fort built during the 18th century is located and the landscape created out of backwaters of Linganamakki Dam on Sharavathi River surrounds Nagara town.
A hill called Kodachadri in the district of Shimoga is a lesser known trekking destination. Notify me of new posts via email. Skip to content Kudajadri mountain lies to the east of Mookambika temple in Kollur district in Karnataka.
